Why is RFK Jr. entitled to Secret Service Protection?

Campaign 2024 - Candidate Protection
https://www.secretservice.gov/protection/leaders/campaign-2024

Only certain candidates are entitled to Secret Service protection. It is not up to the Secret Service.

Title 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7) authorizes the U.S. Secret Service to provide protection for major Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates:

Protection is authorized by the DHS Secretary after consultation with the Congressional Advisory Committee;
The Congressional Advisory Committee includes: Speaker of the House, House Minority Leader, Senate Majority Leader, Senate Minority Leader, and one additional member selected by the others;
Protection under these guidelines should only be granted within one year prior to the general election. Protection more than one year prior to the general election should only be granted in extraordinary, case by case circumstances in consultation with the committee, based on threat assessment and other factors.

Criteria have been established to assist the DHS Secretary and the advisory committee in their decision making (as of 2017).

When determining whether a candidate for the Office of President or Vice President of the United States qualifies as a major candidate, the Secretary has broad discretion and may consider a variety of factors. These factors include, but are not limited to: .....

Whether the candidate is the formal or de facto nominee of a major party for President or Vice President;
Whether the candidate is an independent or third-party candidate for President polling at 20% or more of the Real Clear Politics National Average for 30 consecutive days;
Whether the candidate is the Vice Presidential running mate of the above independent or third-party candidate.

I don't think RFK Jr. is meeting the above requirements. No one wants to kill him, maybe. https://www.newsweek.com/rfk-jr-again-denied-secret-service-protection-threatens-legal-action-1889108

I love it. Someone actually arguing the *negative-safety* of another human being. A high profile political figure at that.

reply

I merely posted the law. If you have a problem with it, talk to your Senator. Why do you think RFK should get protection? RFK Jr. is merely known for being the son of RFK and being super wacky about science. He is a nobody in the political arena and has never held any political office.

Son/nephew of assassinated politicians?

What does the law say?

reply

You're kidding right? I put a link to the law in my original post. Click on it.

reply

I quoted your post.

reply

I know you did, that is what make your posts all the more silly. Go to 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7) and read the law for yourself. I am not here to spoon feed information to people.

reply

You should be able to tell me what it says. The law does not say RFK Jr. is entitled to protection.

Where does it say RFK Jr. is entitled to protection?

reply

He doesn't get the concept that when it's not stated one way or the other, it's discretionary.

He will gaslight you, endlessly.

reply

Either a person is allowed protection or they are not. If a person meets the requirements for protection, they might get it. The law is not black and white.

I think the reason RFK Jr. did not have protection until recently was due to this requirement that I posted above.

Whether the candidate is an independent or third-party candidate for President polling at 20% or more of the Real Clear Politics National Average for 30 consecutive days;

What part of that do you not understand?

Well, I tried. Good luck.

You make no sense.

I am not here to spoon feed information to people.

You should take your own advice every time you beg me for links or sources. Such hypocrisy.

reply

I provided a source for the information, so where is the hypocrisy? All you have to do is highlight the text and put it in a browser. So simple a cavemen can do it? Why can't tvfan do it?

reply

There's many things to be concerned about but granting secret service for RFK jr is SO not one of them. Whether he TECHNICALLY "deserves" it or not. He's a human being in a very contentious race with a lot of unhinged people who like to harm others. That is the baseline.

I really hate using this as a comparison but if we can afford to send all that money to Ukraine we for certain can spare some change on SS for protection of one more candidate.

reply

So where do you draw the line on third party candidates who should be protected by the Secret Service? My last ballot had several third party candidates listed.

reply

Listen I get it, you don't want him to have protection. I just disagree with you on every level.

reply

I did not say that. I claimed that RFK Jr. was not entitled to protection, per the governments own standards.

Are you going to answer my question or just continue to be evasive?

reply

I want Ye to have Secret Service! :D
