The images of the aftermath of the massacre are so iconic and haunting.
I was only five when this all went down, but I remember seeing those iconic images of the dead bodies being splashed across news programs, newspaper covers and magazine headlines for weeks. (Mercifully, all the victims were lying face down, so all you basically saw is what looked like people fast asleep). To this day, the images have never left me and it's still so unfathomable that this happened. I can't imagine how sad and terrifying it must have been, how many people were filled with regret in those last minutes (as in, had had their doubts days or weeks before, second guessed their decision to escape and were then thinking, "Oh, shit.")
