Time proved RJ is a genius.
The only person to work on Star Wars that moved the franchise forward and not look back. Even The Mandalorian fell for that nostalgic trap.

shareI appreciate this message!
shareWell, you're very wrong and Retard Johnsonless' announced SW trilogy has been cancelled. Time has proved true SW fans right.

He did not respect the franchise and thought The Last Jedi was his own movie and that as my problem with it. Changing the narrative in the 8th of 9 films is a bad move. It was not his place to do so.
What proved RJ's genius at filmmaking was Knives Out!. That did not interfere with a franchise but usurped expectations of the murder mystery format excellently
Yes and the Mandalorian proved to be great. why? see my explanation about Tarantino below for more.
Time proved he was way out of his element. and "subvert expectations" can be used as a single twist or two. NOT AN ENTIRE FILM PHILOSOPHY. unless of course that film is a whodunnit murder mystery
not an
-established franchise
-with a previous film with setup
-with a previous 6 films with cannon
-within a well known universe
You can do old but new properly. The Mandalorian did this. The original trilogy was a space western with magic monks. Or just look how Tarintino does homages to his favourite genres and films/filmakers.
Like a Spaghetti western, a blacksploitation or kung fu film. He doesnt reinvent the wheel. he doesnt do everything completely new and different than everyone and subvert expectations because "different is better!". He just does everything when it comes to filming really really really really well.
you are confusing "different" for "competent film making". By your logic a French new wave, abstract film would be the best Star Wars cause its moving the franchise forward! its not nostalgic! its totally different. and new and different means good right? is that why the matrix sequels were so good?
