Finally caved in and is doing a TV series

Cord Jefferson to co-write and executive produce adaptation of John Katzenbach’s novel ‘JUST CAUSE’ starring Scarlett Johansson.

The upcoming limited series will serve as her first major television role.

Well I guess her star power is fading if she is finally caving in and jumping into TV roles. Disappointing.

reply

YOUR DISAPPOINTMENT IS OUTDATED...."TELEVISION" IS A DIFFERENT ANIMAL THESE DAYS...OFTEN RIVALING FILMS FOR QUALITY...OFFERING BETTER ROLES AND DEEPER CHARACTERS THAN A LOT OF FILM ROLES THESE DAYS.

There is a reason why unlike the Golden Globes, The Oscars (like it or not the most prestigious award) don't include TV series. TV is seen as a lesser medium to film and a step down for actors to jump into specially if they have a successful career on film. It devalues the actors within the film industry.

reply

THAT IS TRUE...30 YEARS AGO...THESE DAYS YOUR POST IS FULL STOP BULLSHIT.

reply

There is a reason you don't see big stars like Ana De Armas, Margot Robbie, Kristen Stewart, DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, etc doing TV series.

reply

TOOK YOU ALMOST 20 MINUTES TO COME UP WITH FIVE "BIG STARS" WHO HAVE NOT DONE ANY "TV" WORK....THAT IS HILARIOUS...THE WORLD IS DIFFERENT NOW...TV ISN'T TV ANYMORE...AND YOUR ARGUMENT IS BULLSHIT.

That's silly logic. The Academy for Motion Pictures presents the Oscars. They award movies, not TV. They have don't so since before TV existed.

The Emmys award TV. They don't include movies. Does that mean movies are a lesser art form?

The Golden Globes were created by an organization of international critics to promote themselves and give out a many awards as possible. They were not taken seriously for many years.

reply

I hate to say it but I agree with KOWALSKI. shows like The Sopranos changed the game. TV rivals movies now.

obviously that doesn't apply to shitty sitcoms and FX dramas, but there ARE tv shows that are on par with the movies these days.

the Oscars is a rubbish justification for your opinion

reply

she is almost 40 and the roles are drying up...

reply

that is really what it is.

reply

actually a good sign in general for hollywood,
it used to be hot actresses would age out by 30

reply

that is true...

reply

Is she actually involved in this? News is from February but this project isn't listed in her IMDB page nor is it mentioned in her wikipedia page.

reply

Lots of major stars will do a mini series.

reply

And that lowers their value.

reply

Not always. In the past celebrities would do series between movie roles (or in Fred MacMurray's case around his movie roles). Nowadays some make careers out of television series. Ice T makes way more on SVU than he ever did in the movies.

TBH the industry is mostly just streaming, sequels, remakes, reboots, requels, franchises and movies based on brands and IPs so its not really shocking. Shes in the Jurassic Park too. Honestly nobody wants to see a movie with Scar Jo that isn't considered original, Margot Robbie is having the same problem, both relied on ips too long and now they have to do whatever gig for cash
