weird question. how did Jay character die in WTC? i saw it for the first time today, and i dont really understand. when he take the gun, he seems to shot in the air. how did he die?

shareI only got to see the first few minutes (about 35 minutes) before I fell asleep. From what I saw was after he free'd himself he was trying to free the others when the second building collapsed causing the remaining debri from the first tower to crush him. It looked as though it fell into his stomach, he took the gun and though it seemed he was going to kill himself to free himself of pain but he takes the gun and shoots it up to the side.
I too was puzzled by it and I have two explainations. One is of course like the other person said as an alert method and two was you know how sometimes when people die they take that one last huge breath before they pass away? Maybe that was to let the audience know that he took his final breath.
