Should she get the Emmy ?
I understand that Lena Headey has submitted her work from the Game of Thrones Season 5 finale for Emmy consideration. I think she's a great actress, especially in the role of Cersei. She has the perfect look for Cersei, with her high cheek bones and sexy mouth and that expression of superior contempt on her face. She's been great in both Season 4 and Season 5 in this role. She almost makes you want to grovel at her feet, as she exudes arrogance and dominant female power and beauty.
In the finale, she shows her versatility as an actress as the roles are reversed and she is stripped of her clothing and dignity. I was incredibly impressed when I first saw this scene, as I assumed it really was Lena Headey (and not a body double) performing. I admired how brave this actress was to go fully nude for over 5 minutes in front of hundeds of extras and crew. I was in awe of how powerful and confident she was to do a scene like this; how ballsy to be putting it all out there for her craft, and how beautiful and sexy her body looked (before she was splattered with all the food). That scene was truly epic....and made me respect her so much! So I was completely let down when I found out recently that she used a body double for the scene and they just CGI'd her head onto Rebecca Van Cleave's body.
Rebecca Van Cleave is the one who really did this scene, fully nude for 3 days straight. So she is the gutsy one and deserves the credit for it. Although I like Lena Headey and have been impressed with many of her other scenes throughout Season 5 and was blown away by this scene, until I found out that the difficult part, (the actual nudity) was performed by another actress, I feel that this diminished the impact of the scene and was a bit of a cop out on Lena's part. She's still a great actress and is great as Cersei, but I just can't endorse her for an Emmy based on that scene, when the most critical part, the "Walk of Shame", was performed by another actress.
Kate Winslet, a truly worthy Oscar winner, has always done her own nude scenes and NEVER used a body double. She even urinated (for real) on film (for the movie Holy Smoke, but the director cut it out). Kate is always willing to push herself wherever her character goes, even into uncomfortable territory. Kate Winslet is a truly fearless actress and a real gutsy woman. So all I can say is that if Lena had done the whole scene herself, with no body doubles or CGI, it would have been an epic scene and displayed incredible strength and certainly deserved an Emmy. But since she relied instead on another actress and CGI effects to do most of the work, it diminishes her performance and I can't admire her as much as if she did it herself.
