Exceptionally fine on Broadway
A real natural onstage with a fine carrying calm voice. There is one scene of about 5 seconds when the spotlight is just on her (looking out of the window of a train) where her looks might take your breath away.
I just posted this brief review on Ewan McGregor's board which mentions Maggie's fine performance. They had good chemistry too.

Ewan sure is a likable guy which helps The Real Thing work - he has two love interests, and he made that ring true.
He and the main two female leads (especially Maggie Gyllenhaal) were very fine in the main parts, about actors and playwrights and how those occupations impact married life.
The other female lead is Cynthia Nixon of Sex and the City who we have seen before and is a real natural onstage. Both she and Maggie are American of course but have exceptional British accents onstage - so did Maggie's brother Jake who we saw a few months ago; he used a regional UK dialect throughout that play.
This is quite a funny play though a bit dated in the music and politics and several of the jokes only mean something if one is British. Ewan plays this sort of gentle comedy well.
The set is a bit reminiscent of a windowless cell, a mistake, we thought. Dont let that put you off. The story and Ewan's character end up well.
Ewan is not the first male to come onstage. There is quite a long scene first with someone else. My wife thought that was Ewan throughout and she said at the end "I didnt much like Ewan; but that other guy who was mainly onstage was just great".
So she is now a big new fan.
