I love that Walt can never fool Skyler
(If you haven't seen the series, SPOILERS ahead. Don't read on.)
I just finished watching "Breaking Bad," on DVD for the first time (and I'm watching it again because it is so freaking good) and I just love that Walt can never, ever fool Skyler.
When I read about the Skyler hate on the Internet, I was flabbergasted. It's true that, at the beginning of the series, because nature abhors a vacuum, Skyler is very controlling of Walt, and she does wear the pants in the family, but Walt is just sleep-walking through his life until he gets the wake-up call of a terminal cancer diagnosis.
Does it bother people that Skyler is too smart to be fooled by Walt once he starts behaving strangely and lying to her? To me, it signifies that she is a strong person, and it also says something about the strength of their marriage. A weak marriage would be blown apart by the revelation that Walt is cooking Meth, whereas, because of the strength of their marriage, Skyler is conflicted about what to do. Even though their marriage is in trouble, Walt is able to corrupt Skyler in large part because she decides to stay in the marriage, and keep his secrets.
And, does anyone think Skyler will every remarry after Walt dies at the end of the series? I vote no. At the end of the series, she's chain-smoking to such an extent that it seems like she wants to get lung cancer.
