Word has it that Stephen Graham is a shoe in for an oscar nomination for his role as combo in "This is England"
I just watched the movie at the Landmarks and he is amazing in this wonderful film.
This film should be put in wide release!
So remember this name Stephen Graham - This is England - Best Actor 2008 Oscars!

shareI completely agree with you. I only realized it was Stephen Graham half-way through the film because his character was so unlike anything he has ever played. It reminded me of Ray Winstone in 'Nil By Mouth'. For that reason it will be ignored at the Oscars. I don't want to offend but America doesn't make, nor like films like this. It's as real as it can possibly get. Bad teeth and reality is a real no, no in the U.S. I'm from England and live in SF. I know what I'm talking about!!

I thought the exact same thing when I saw it the other day. This is an amazing movie and his portrayal is so earth shattering, a tragic spawn of a system that had no place for him. The ending sequence is so utterly heartbreaking i was in tears, pleaseif there is any faith in Oscars, he will recieve a nom, at least a spirit nom if nothing else

shareI'm from America too and I just came across this gem by accident. It was amazing and Stephen Graham was just a POWERHOUSE.
The oscars don't mean anything anymore. One in four oscars is anywhere NEAR deserved. Stephen Graham isn't a name in America, hence he won't win. But whether or not Stephen is nominated or wins doesn't change a thing. That was one of the finest character portrayals I've ever seen.
I'm black for god's sake and I had nothing, NOTHING but empathy for poor Combo and Shaun and everyone else. He wasn't a bad guy...just emotional immature, tragic.

Oscars don't matter. Christian Bale has never been nominated and he is next to Daniel Day Lewis the best actor alive. Alfonso Cuaron wasn't nominated for Children of Men. But what happens? history wins. Both are considered 'Gods' and can virtually do whatever they like and have the respect of people who love film. Stephen Graham is in the same boat, this guy will have a hell of a career and great directors will want him on their projects.
