A question to American fans

Coming from the UK, I have no idea how to tell when a certain regional US accent is convincing/authentic or not, In Broadwalk Empire and Public Enemies, does he pull them off quite convincingly?

I assume in PE's its a Chicago region and BE its an New York Italian American.

reply

I had no clue he was British to be honest after watching Boardwalk Empire. Haven't seen Public Enemies though.

reply

Are you kidding me? I only found out that he was British by reading his IMDB entry just now. His American accent is fantastic.

reply

He's great with accents - Boardwlak Empire, Public Enemies and Texas Killing Fields.

Not only that - he's probably most famous for Snatch - if you haven't seen that you don't know what you're missing.

reply

I'm not from Brooklyn so I can't comment on how accurate it is but I can say that I've never heard him "slip". Like others here, I had no idea that wasn't his natural accent.

reply

His Italian New York accent is dead on. He's really a superb actor.

reply

Yes, great american accent and even chicago sounding.. He either has a helluva american accent or a helluva english one lol.

reply

His American accents are flawless. And as an American, I pay close attention to non-American actors and how they try to sound American. There are quite a few in the acting biz who can't pull it off. Stephen Graham is quite the talent.

reply

Not even Americans can do a genuine 1920's North American type accent.
