Her role in Gilmore Girls and Parenthood

It's basically the same, the circumstances are different but the way the character is handled is the same.

She's funny, she is not overdramatic (despite having troubled children in Parenthood), both characters handle the problems in the same way.

I enjoy them both deeply, but I cannot help to feel that I'm watching Lorelai again in Parenthood.

Mmmmm... I have to admit I have not watched Parenthood a lot, but that was my first impression. Maybe I'm wrong.

But I love her in both shows.

I think it's just a little difficult getting used to Lauren playing another character. With actors from television serieses it's always a little weird when you see them in other roles, because they're often linked to one single character.

Sarah and Lorelai really only have two things in common: they're both young single parents and they're both falling for their daughters' teachers :D

I just started watching Parenthood, and I think it's a good show, but I agree with the OP. Lauren is not a versatile actress.

I really don't think it's fair to say that Lauren isn't a versatile actress just because she's played two similar parts. It's not her fault that the parts are similar, she's just acting. Look at Bad Santa and The Moguls and you'll see that she can play different types of characters as well.

I don't think they're the same at all. I see what you mean though, with the dialogue and some of her characteristics but I dunno. She might just seem different to me because of the different children situations and the way Sarah dresses.

I thought so too in the first few episodes of Parenthood, but now I see it´s not the same character at all. In Parenthood she plays this incredible emotional wreck, the exact opposite of Lorelai I think.

I gotta disagree.
Lorelai 99% of the time took hardship really well, usually making it into a joke, not really reacting in an emotional way, she's very confident, strong person.
Sarah is a highly emotional person who feels like a failure.

To a certain degree you have to allow for the fact that we are watching Lauren Graham in both shows. There is only so much that she can change about herself unless you expect her to gain a bunch of weight and shave her head while developing a very strange accent.
