Her name - same as Lauren Graham

Perhaps I'm overlooking the obvious. I thought that an actor was not able to use the same name as another actor who was already registered with SAG or one of the other organizations which records such things. Apparently not. Just curious as to what the rules are. No complaint. Both are attractive women and decent actors.

What movies was the other Lauren Graham in? I can't seem to place another actress by the same name. I can only think of Lauren Ambrose or Heather Graham.

To the last reply, if you search on here, there are two. The other one is a younger blonde with only 6 credits. Maybe they were made before she got her SAG card?

Maybe you're getting her mixed up with Lauren German from Hostel:Part II

From the SAG website FAQ:

"SAG-AFTRA makes every effort to avoid enrolling members with the same name or with very similar names. Because the list of available names changes daily, it would not be helpful to you for us to research your name choices before you join. During your joining appointment, we will ask you for three alternate name choices, in case your first choice is not available. A final name-availability check is done at the time the initiation fee is paid. Only then can an applicant be assured of having a particular professional name."

Based on this, I'd make the assumption that two actors can have the same name, based on the discretion of the SAG.

I believe the man who directed "12 Years a Slave" (I may be wrong on that) but his name is Steve McQueen, and there's an actor who now stars in Longmire named Robert Taylor, and Paul Rudd is not the first actor named Paul Rudd. The first Paul Rudd, however wasn't well known.

The actor in Longmire didn't start acting until after the classic movie actor Robert Taylor had been dead almost 20 years and most of his early career was in Australia. SAG tries not to let actors use the same name, but if they aren't working actors at the same time then they aren't as strict about it. That's how Alan Hale, Jr. starting going just by Alan Hale later in his career after his father died.

If you do a name search for Robert Taylor on IMDb there are at least 75 people with that name listed on IMDb, each with a different Roman Numeral after their name. The classic screen actor has a (I) and the actor from Longmire is (VII). All of these Robert Taylor's are not actors, some are directors, writers or other film crew members and each is distinguished here by a Roman Numeral after their name, just as Lauren Graham is. She has a Roman Numeral (I) after her name. There are 12 Lauren Grahams listed on IMDb, but not are all actresses.

The Steve McQueen who directed 12 Years a Slave isn't really an actor so he wouldn't be a member of SAG, but of the Director's Guild and the writer's guild. He did do a few acting roles in some of his early shorts that he also directed, but they were all made in the UK, so I doubt he would have had to been a member of SAG (an American actors' union) at the time. Also like Robert Taylor above, he didn't start his career until years after the actor Steve McQueen was dead, so it wouldn't have mattered anyway.
