Dont get me wrong, technically this guy takes massive risks and should be recognized for the ambition, but his movies are DULL! The guy cant tell a story, he tries but cant. I dot understand the love, unless its emperors new clothes. Dont understand. Any fans mind teling me what you like about the guy? Not trolling, because its evident that I'm wrong, just intereseted

I LOVED Amores Perros. 10/10 *beep* film honestly, he gets life long appreciation from me for that one. If any of his films deserved an Oscar it was Amores Perros. Everything past that hasn't been as great. But hell its working, and seeing as he's Mexican and i'm an aspiring Mexican screenwriter myself its good to see that hes possibly opening/paving the way for our kind.

I haven't seen The Revenant yet either by the way, hope he wins best director again though.

Stick to Michael Bay, then

Thats my point, to me he seems to be michael bay but with a better way of spinning it. All crash! boom! but with no ability to tell a good story. This is my POV, not a dismissal of yours. No need to be a dick

I agree, mate. He annoys me no end. I hate his visual style, it's well choreographed in a sense, but also entirely shallow and pointless. It's actually quite similar to directors who shoot too much coverage and cut between shots without any narrative reason to. It's handheld ADHD and everyone laps it up because it's technically difficult.

I actually enjoy Iñárritu's films... now who I don't understand is Malick. I swears he just shoots a bunch of scenes and puts them altogether and hopes the audience understands it. To me it's like abstract art... throw a bunch of paint splatters on a canvas and someone will claim it's art.

I have to take the OP comments back, I saw The Revanent and it wasnt bad certainly better than Birdman, which really is pretentious. The Revanent was a simple story, maybe a bit of overkill on the melodrama, but really well done. I think as a whole the oscar movies this year havent been as great as say, last year (with the exception of birdman), but revanent is probably the best I've seen. So I accept I was wrong. this one time.
