Why not Alejandro González instead of Alejandro G. Iñárritu?

If he wanted to make it easier for foreign audiences to say his name, why not just eliminate his 2nd last name? Now, people probably assume González is his middle name and Iñárritu his only last name.

inya-ri-too. It's easy to pronounce, what's the big deal. If Schwarzenegger didn't change it, why should AGI.

My guess would be because Gonzalez is just too common a Hispanic surname. Inarritu stands out and is memorable.

reply

Because his name is Gonzalez Iñaritu. Perhaps he is honoring his mother.

It's a common Hispanic thing. List your paternal name first, then your maternal name.
