shareAs much as I dislike three of the Oscars Iñárritu has won (especially Direction for "The Revenant"), there's still Tom Hooper. That every movie he's made this decade is literally PANDERING for Oscars says it all. Iñárritu, at least, tries for something more ambitious.

I disagree, i think he even deserved that fifth for best picture for Revenant.
shareHe is one of those directors, like Tim Burton, who really needs material that fits his style. I hated his first couple of movies, but I really enjoyed birdman and the revenant. I think it was because they played into how showy he likes to be with the camera (birdman) and his love of grit and over the top violence ( the revenant).
shareHe's a strong contender. His biggest problem is that his movies simply have no soul and no sense of humour either. They are so nihilistic that watching them is a chore at best and an exercise in induced depression at worst.
shareNah. Birdman was hilarious - in its own way though.
shareNo. Spielberg is.
