They were a close couple. I guess they grew apart. I heard it was because she was jealous of his acsending star status. I know it was quite rancorous at first. But they evidently now live close to one another and their son Finlay (who has always been a very high priority in their lives- he was always with one parent when the other was working) trots between their homes. Iain has been seeing Charlotte Emmerson for year or longer. He seems to prefer the steady company of one lady to "playing the field." So I kind of doubt he was seeing other women while married. If he had been, I think he would have latched on to Nicole Kidman when Tom Cruise dumped her. But he seems to try to keep his professional and private lives seperate.
