Harry Brown

The film Joe shot earlier this year with Sir Michael Caine, will be having its World Premiere as a Special Presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday September 12th. Details and images from the film (two of which are of Joe looking pretty messed up!) can be found on the official TIFF website. http://tiff.net/filmsandschedules/films/harrybrown It is also listed as one of the '10 Most Sought After Titles' at the festival.

There was also a three-page spread on Harry Brown in the most recent edition of EMPIRE. Again, there was a picture of Joe! It will be released on November 13th and EMPIRE's review will be in the December issue.

The trailer is now up as well: http://4outof10.com/michael-caine-is-harry-brown-first-trailer-online/

The rler looks pretty good.
BTW, it says I need a password for your photobucket scans. Thanks for the other photos though.
OT Does anyone know how many tattoos Joe has?

reply

Damn... it's in the mag though, if you can get it!

The film does looks pretty good from the trailer. He seems very unlike Joe, Eli, Woody etc.

I haven't a clue how many tattoos he even has on his arms alone. About 4? Plus one on his wrist of a large cross, I think, and the tiny TIE style cross on his finger.

I've seen this film now. I wasn't keen on the reactionary stance and thought it was quite implausible. I also thought the police scenes were rather dull, however, it was very well directed and acted.

Joe doesn't have a large role as such (most of the villains don't). He's in three scenes, with the main scene he's in being the most talked about in the movie. He's more of a henchman though, to Sean Harris' super-creepy Stretch, who I think his character is terrified of.

He looks like a zombie - with a set of fake smashed teeth - and does a good job of being both nastily repulsive and really quite pathetic as he cringes from Stretch. He changed his accent to a Manc one (heard him say he based it on his agent) and sounds totally different! It's actually a bit freaky hearing him, as he doesn't sound anything like Joe at all. All credit to him for that.

In reaction to thelostkelpie's very kind words about Sean Harris over on his board, I thought I'd leave some compliments for young Joe Gilgun here!

I'm not an Emmerdale viewer, but whenever I've fleetingly caught a few scenes, his character Eli has been one of the most noticeable of the cast!

I watched him play Kenny in Harry Brown and I must say, I was very impressed!

His performance as Stretch's drug-addled sidekick showed an actor who could go far, as he more than held his own alongside both Harris and Caine.

Kenny came across as both comical, and unscrupulous in equal measure. A very good turn from a young actor.

Joe also proved to be a good egg, when at the premiere of the film. The section where I was standing was right near the photographers, and on his way over to them, he stopped to sign autographs for people in the crowd. When he had to go to get his pictures taken, a few people sighed and said that he hadn't got around to them yet, but he promised he would be back.

True to his word, after being photographed, he bounded over, all sweet and charming, and signed the rest of the autographs!

I hope that Mr Gilgun will have a very good and rewarding acting career ahead of him. Before I'd watched him in Harry Brown, I didn't know much, what to expect of him, but he seems like he could do very well!

Like Mariyam77, I've popped over from the Sean Harris board with my own compliments for Joe.

I've nothing more to add to what Mariyam77 has already said and to say that I really enjoyed his performance in the film, and his interactions with Sean and Sir Michael! Well done!

Awwww! You're really sweet!

I think he was wasted in Emmerdale anyway, but hopefully Shane Meadows will give him some good stuff to work with. I would rather like for him to take the Sean Harris route for a while - a gritty mix of TV and films. He was lucky to be in that scene with Sean - the most talked about one in the whole movie!

Nice to hear he was so sweet to fans. I've always heard good things about him in that respect.

Thanks!

You're very welcome!

Also, yes, he really was just so friendly at the premiere! His positive energy was very cheering for those of us who were stood in the cold!

Fingers crossed for him in his career post-Emmerdale. I'll be watching out for him!
