I wonder (perhaps someone on here knows) is he deliberately doing "smaller" movies as opposed to bigger blockbuster/Hollywood-type things or is it a case of it not really having happened to him yet?? His more recent stuff I think hasn't been as good are earlier work...

Think he's an awesome actor. Motorcycle Diaries is one of my all time favourite movies.

Y Tu Mama Tambien, Bad Education and Crimen de Padre Amaro excellent too. And I loved Dot the I even though some people didn't.

You must take in concideration that he is Mexican & from Mexico. Do you really think a so called "powerful" Hollywood industry & country dominated by whites who only see white, are going to take him seriously as an Actor...?

He has a better chance of gaining success in Europe than he does, well how do I put this softly without making an racist remakes about this country... here.

I don't necessarily agree. Hollywood cinema is always looking for "ethnic" flavor in their films. However, most Hollywood big productions are merely into marketing their film. They care nothing about the quality of the films they make. This explains why people like Michael Bay are successful. Gael goes more towards his own country's filmmakers. Quality in cinema is pretty much only found outside of the United States. He is acting in these quality films and viewers who have taste are going to know that. Hollywood is not the sole opinion of fame. Most of their ethnic films are empty and devoid of all truth and emotion. Thank God Gael strays from that.
