His attitude

To start off, I'm not a troll. I'm just a person who sprained an ankle and a wrist (idiot) and has spent way too much time on YouTube.

I watched a very lot of Freeman's interviews and I was disappointed to find him belligerent and self-righteous. The only one I saw that didn't seem odd was with Amanda on some morning talk show. There he seemed quite pleasant. I would love to hear (impending avalanche) of examples of interviews that show the kind of kindness that you see in his roles.

It's British humor he's very sarcastic. From what I've heard he's one of the nicest guys out there

This one, at least, is hilarious:

Here, he's just taking the mickey:

If he's not your cup of tea from anything you've seen, I guess he's just a bit too dry for your liking. I think he comes across as a nice, intelligent, funny bloke who isn't a total softie sweetheart like some of his characters - he's got a bit of a bite, which I like.

reply

Exactly, his bite is one of the best things about him. It makes him more like able I think because he's so real, he doesn't say what people want him to say he says what he wants. That's a great thing especially now in a world where actors are being told what to say. He seems like a real down to earth like able guy if you got to know him. He's very private so he's not going to put his life out there for people to know about.

The above article, while not painting a flattering portrait of Martin, offers insight into the actors motivations.
I like Martin's acerbic humour which is usually aimed at people taking him for granted. His colleagues speak of his temper, yet admire his work ethic and professionalism which is all that matters.

reply

I wonder if this "attitude" you have observed is informed by his recently disclosed split from Amanda Abbington. He looks so different-hair, weight loss, and possibly angst or sorrow.

reply

Very interesting article...Yes he does often look like he is on the verge of exploding, he has that sort of Basil Fawlty quality about him. (I would imagine that the double whammy of parents separating young and then his father, whom he lived with, dying when he was only 10, would cause quite a build of rage against the world!!

I haven't seen many interviews at all, but I do catch the odd episode here and there of the Graham Norton show, so I saw the episode in which he was featured. He was lovely!
