should've been Letterman's successor

Funnier than Corden, Kimmel and Fallon.

reply

Yes but is he a little bit too out of the ordinary for a large mainstream audience ?

reply

THAT WAS THE KNOCK ON CONAN...WE ALL KNOW HOW THAT PLAYED OUT.

reply

I don't think so.He was definitely different but it worked. His show was much more laid back and fun kind of like Graham Norton. His guests always seem like they were having a blast.

reply

Yes! It was fun watching his show and I miss it dearly.

reply

I loved his interviews with Carey Mulligan.

reply

I agree.

reply

His exchange with Robin Williams is probably some of the funniest late night comedy ever.

reply

I've never seen the Robin Williams episodes.I watched his appearances on youtube yesterday. They had great chemistry together.I miss Williams. His ability to walk out with no prepared material and just start riffing was amazing. He was in a league of his own.

I like Colbert, a lot.

It would not have worked. With Conan and Letterman Craig was my favorite talkshow host of the past 30 years, but his style would not have worked with more mainstream audiences. The slot he had with the Late Late Show was perfect for him because it allowed him the freedom to do the most crazy things and develop his own style. But with the Late Show he would have been confined to a more traditional style that he would not have liked. I would not have liked it either.

Actually: the same effect can now be seen with Colbert. Loved The Colbert Report but I am utterly bored by Colbert's version of the Late Show.
