Iron Man was an EXCELLENT movie. Why all the hate?
Iron Man was an excellent movie. It was on many critics' top ten lists for 2008. It had one of the highest aggregate scores on rotten tomatoes. It restarted Robert Downey Jr's career.
In short, it was an amazing movie which received very little criticism. I don't get why, all of a sudden, the internet is aflame with "Iron Man sucked, and we need a GOOD director" sentiments. Yes, Favreau left, because he was tired of Marvel's back seat driving. Favreau wanted Iron Man 2 to be a Tony Stark story. Marvel wanted Iron Man 2 to be a SHIELD story with Nick Fury, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, oh and Tony Stark, if there's time. Marvel won the argument, their movie got made, and Iron Man 2 wasn't very good because of it.
Now all the bitter fanboys are somehow under the impression that by hiring a different director, things will be different? Things will be better? Marvel's still going to be calling the shots and still meddling with the story. So even if they do get Shane Black or Neil Blomkamp or Joel Schumacher to direct, the movie's still going to be Marvel's; and if Frank Miller has proven anything, comic book writers typically make really crappy movies.
