Reason Colin made Fantastic Beasts

I read an article where Colin said he made FB so his kids could see one of his movies, but after seeing the trailers, is the movie really appropriate for young children? I know he has one developmentally challenged pre-teen son, but his other son is 6 or 7. The movie is rated PG-13. I know as adults we are so used to seeing scary, violent images, but maybe not for children as young as his? Maybe he will wait a few years before he shows it to them.
(I remember my mom telling me that I used to have nightmares after watching the Wizard of Oz on tv!)

It's up to the parent to determine that. I feel like when I was 7 I could handle a film like Fantastic Beasts. The ratings are so arbitrary, it's just a guide for parents to judge on a case by case basis.

Took my 9 year old step daughter and her friend they read the book. They where fine.

I agree, this is dark and PG-13 for a reason. It deals with whimsical creatures and fantasy lands in a suitcase, and then turns on a dime and deals with child abuse, child manipulation, murderous children who can't control their actions and a bunch of Aurors destroying a kid (or so they think). Now, it's a very good movie, but the themes are pretty mature for younger children.

He's done several PG-13 movies, none of which I would show to a 7 year old if I was a parent. Saving Mr. Banks is the closest, and even that deals with suicide, drunkenness and death by consumption. It's also liable to go right over a kid's head and they probably wouldn't appreciate it until they are older.

Such a stupid reason to do a film, I thought he was a serious actor.
