RIP IMDb



That's really too bad. Going on their other social media accounts instead is not the same, as they only post current things happening now. What if you're only interested in discussing specific actors/actresses/films?

It's just too bad that imdb is riddled with trolls and stalkers and people who can't have a debate without name calling and threatening each other. I guess that's the only reason I'm happy the boards are closing. Other than that, I think it's an unfair decision made by IMDb for its loyal users. Pretty disappointed in this decision.

It's funny they can't follow the model of some video game companies like the developers of League of Legends who have great admins and ways to monitor one account per person. Perhaps they don't have the funding to do so, but in today's age companies have learned how to deal with trolls within communities surprisingly well given the anonymity of the internet. If only IMDb could've done the same. Now posting for ten years all seems like such a waste.

Agreed. I've been here since 2004. So sad.

Part of me thinks it's just laziness on the admin's part. I've been posting here since I was 14 (2006), and even then I remember the boards being full of trolls... I would think that 10+ years later the imdb staff would figure something out. Out of all the sites I've visited over the past handful of years, imdb is the least evolved.

Deleting the message boards is basically their way of saying "we don't care what our users want, we just don't feel like dealing with this anymore." Very selfish and lazy move. It's very sad and unfair for the civil and loyal users.

They just needed better admins.

Yeah I started in 2006 as well when I was 16. This is really sad. What IMDb could've done was adopt a one account per user system which weeds out the majority of trolls, leaving only the ones with no lives to bypass it by aggressive time wasting to set things up, and then an upvote/downvote system like Reddit to further strengthen legitimate posts over trolly ones.

It's sad because I'm sure the three of us enjoy reading these boards like reasonable people. They need fresher minds at IMDb.

I'm going to bet right now though that the forums will return in two years after the traffic to the sites take a noticeable chunk, and IMDb will return with a revamped board design which looks overly new and will turn off some people (like Battle.net 2.0 to the gamers out there).

I agree. It seems like the lazy way to delete all accounts and start new in a year or so. I don't see it as gone forever.
