Melinda Dillon starred in some classic movies in the 1970s and 1980s. She played Nick Nolte's traumatized sister in Prince of Tides, you can catch her in Close Encounters, and she starred opposite Sylvester Stallone in a film called FIST. She was memorable in Absence of Malice with Paul Newman which was a critique of irresponsible journalism.

She's been in many of my favourite films, including A Christmas Story, Harry and the Hendersons and Magnolia.

I only knew her from Close Encounters, but still sad to hear. That's the power of movies.
