Her acting on How to Get Away With Murder . . .

I just started Episode 5 of HTGAWM, and I had to pause it to write this. As far as I can remember, I've never seen Viola Davis in anything else, but this woman is so absolutely brilliant on HTGAWM that she leaves me speechless as I watch the show. Her eyes and her voice are like laser beams that just cut right through the screen. I feel exactly what she feels as she reacts to whatever is going on around her, and for me, that's the most genuine indicator that you're in the presence of a master-class thespian. Only five episodes in and she's already doing THIS? It thrills and excites me as a lover of great acting to wonder what the next ten episodes hold.

If you get a chance, see the movie Doubt. She had a small role but her performance was incredible.

wow....you said EVERTHING i want to say..but better. so TOTALLY AGREE!!

I can't stand that show and her in it. It's too dark and she's too overly-dramatic. I think that show has some of the worst acting and writing, but it's a "Shonda" production, so it will be on for quite a few seasons.

As someone else said, please watch Doubt. It is an excellent movie. I love Viola's acting normally but for some reason I can't get into How To Get Away From Murder. I don't think it is the best medium to show her real acting chops.

I just found a copy of Doubt, so I plan to watch it in the next couple of days. Thanks for the recommendation.😃

I disagree with every word of this. One thing we DO agree on, however, is that the show "will be on for quite a few seasons."

As I was saying to Rosiesgrand, I plan to watch Doubt today or tomorrow. I'm eager to compare her acting in Doubt and HTGAWM. My curiosity is certainly piqued.

What is it about her acting on HTGAWM that bothers you? Clearly, the show is stylized, so I think her acting is in keeping with that.

I don't think it's really her. I think she is so limited because of the style of the show. I don't like how the show is set up. It took me awhile to get used to Scandal too.
