His IMDb trivia says that he graduated from Oxford University with a degree in English Literature & Language. Impressive no doubt, but not really related to acting.
He landed his first professional acting gig being 23, but before that, did he participate in some acting workshops or something?
I wasn't aware of him having any formal training but I know Hugh did a lot of acting at school - he was a complete natural and got the lead part in every play we put on. He also played the lead in an amateur film a few of us made one holiday, which was pretty dire but I wish I'd held onto my copy given his subsequent success.

He's from an extremely wealthy and well connected family and he's good looking. It was probably very easy for him.
I always assumed his parents were friends with agents or something. That's what I would guess.
I was never aware you needed an acting degree to get into acting aside from any other kind of degree!!
