The Great Raid?
Is this any good? I was thinking of renting but thought he did not have a lot of screentime.

shareI consider it to be a wonderful movie. Marton's time was put to EXCELLENT use. He was brilliant. I only saw it once, quite a while ago, and it left me limp. I am gearing up to watch it again.
shareOh sounds great!! I will get it.
I read he dropped a lot of weight for the role.
When Dustin Hoffman, a method actor, and Laurence Olivier were making MARATHON MAN, Dustin Hoffman stayed awake for several days for his character to be properly tired. He bragged about his dedication to Olivier who replied, "Why didn't you just ACT tired"? I always loved that.
Anyway, in THE GREAT RAID weight loss was apparent in all of the men who looked much like real POW's. I guess the director was a "method" kind of guy so he had them live on a semi-starvation diet for a while and everyone got quite thin, including Marton. In that case it made sense since you can't really just ACT like you're skin and bones.
The raid is a true story -- you can Google it or look it up on Wikipedia. That's what makes it so emotional. It did poorly at the box office and was actually mostly filmed in 2002 (released in 2005). I don't know why it was delayed so long...maybe they knew it wasn't going to be a money-maker since it wasn't a movie where you'd take a date.
At any rate, I think it's a fantastic film with some fine acting by several actors I normally don't care that much about. Please post what you think of Marton's performance.
Why did Red try to escape even after he knew ten men would be killed if he was caught? There was chance they would even kill his friend.
shareOne explanation could be that according to Article #3 of The Military Code of Conduct, a captured soldier's duty is to try to escape and to aid in the escape of others. That can be in direct conflict, however, with Article #4 which says, essentially, that as a POW you should not put your comrades in harm's way. I do not understand the military. I haven't seen the film for years so don't remember Red's specific motivation, only that Marton played him so well.
