shareI think someone asked this before. I repeat my answer: Her role as poorly developed and her death scene was awful but her performance was fine in general. I can't be mad at Nolan, he's an amazing director and he gave her Mal in Inception.
shareI agree with Allgot on this one; the character was underused for an actress of this calibre, and script was unclear, so Marion didn't have enough to do or enough backstory to make the character come alive (her speciality). I've been in law enforcement for some time and seen people die. They don't say, "Mr. deMille, I'm ready for my closeup," or give a rousing monologue about existentialism. They just die; the light goes out in their eyes, and the body relaxes. So I didn't have a real hate for the death scene, though the fanboys did, lots of hollering and screaming. The woman has been through a terrible accident in a truck, probably her spine is broken and she may be bleeding in places we can't see. So she just dies.
But fan boys don't know much about cinematic art, don't care about the writing, and just go with the noise, the violence, and machismo. DARK KNIGHT RISES is one of the dullest, most confused, and needlessly dense films I've ever seen, and I probably wouldn't have paid to see it except for Cotillard. Lots of huge men running at each other screaming is not my idea of entertainment.
How many times are we expected to sit through yet another BATMAN tale? Or SPIDERMAN? OR IRONMAN? I know the story, and wild horses couldn't drag me into another one -- unless Cotillard was in it. She seems to be quite loyal to her friends and bonded with Nolan on INCEPTION. He invited her to be in the BAT nonsense; she showed up on set. He's responsible for the death scene. And she would, I think, gladly work with him again. But hopefully not in a franchise, and with more boundaries about what she would have to put up with during filming. Nolan should long ago have said, "Look, I'm responsible for the death scene; it was my choice in editing. Marion is one of the world's best; shut the F up." But he never has.

I loved her performance in that 1 scene where she stabs Batman, reveals herself as Talia al Ghul, tells Batman about her past history with Bane, her father, and the League of Shadows, and then explains to Batman why she is doing what she is doing. She was Great in that whole scene!
That scene was amazing!!! Too bad she never had a fight with anyone and died terribly. Not only her death scene but the whole chasing was stupid, too quick. She deserved more space as Talia.

LOL, She should have had a fight scene with Catwoman!
Does anybody else here have any thoughts or opinions on this subject ?
