I don't even think Letterman was getting paid the same amount when he retired. And his ratings were slightly better near the end and had worked for CBS for over 20 years.

He gets paid whatever he's worth to the network in advertising revenue generated by the show. It's not hard to work out. And has nothing to do with what you think he deserves.

Colbert is still the asshole in glasses who gets beaten by a cable channel zero star. And that includes cross platforms for the next PR release!

Letterman was paid that thirty years ago. And don't act surprised that high earner salaries have increased since then by many times more than average and low income workers.
