While that may be the politician's motivation, I still think it is a good idea.
#1 cause of bankruptcy in the US is unpaid medical debt. I find that abhorrent. People become destitute just trying to stay alive/healthy.
Those bankruptcies are from people who have health insurance, ran beyond their limit, and own large assets they wish to protect. These aren't poor people. These are sick wealthy people who should have been more responsible. They last thing we ought to do is allow them to expose us to their risk. Should we all chip in for hurricane insurance to protect their mansions?
