On 'Mercy' this week...

i taped it and didn't know she was on it..lol but i watched it when i got home....she did alright, i thought it was just average teen acting, it wasn't the greatest. it was kinda like the same level of acting she did on without a trace? i think is wha she was on awhile back.

She was quite pretty in Mercy, which made the dilemma all the more difficult; I really felt bad for her character.

It turned out that she was actually a male, and had a disorder that caused her to present as female up until mid-puberty, at which point, the testosterone started to kick and change her body, causing her a lot of pain. She then had to decide what to do; to allow her male chromosomes turn her into a guy throughout the rest of puberty, or take hormones to stay a female like she had unknowingly been for all her life. What made it worse was that her boyfriend was a real jerk. Sure he was surprised and freaked out, but he should have considered how much more— ie, infinitely, permanently, and unavoidably—difficult the situation was for her (and her parents), and his quickly dumping her and calling her a freak was not helping.

Ummm..is that even a logical thing that can happen? Sounds a little far fetched.
Did she just randomly grow a penis or what? I'm not trying to sound like a smartass..but really. Thats strange.

Well I don’t remember it too well because it was a couple of months ago, but if I remember correctly, she was genetically male (XY), but the disorder caused her body not to develop as a male (a fetus is “female” by default and develops male attributes when testosterone begins to be produced in utero). However when she hit puberty, testosterone began getting produced more due to her XY chromosomes, so she started to change. I don’t recall what anatomical changes there were—I think I am mixing up the part where the doctors look with another show that had a similar ep recently—but I think the main problem was something more subtle.
