Pompous pretentious windbag...

...Hollywood liberal.

How could anyone he was interviewing listen to him and keep a straight face?

reply

Sounds like you only hate him because he's liberal or else you would have just left it at "pompous pretentious windbag".

reply

No. He seemed way too full of himself.

reply

And you're just the right person to put him in his place, being such a necessity to do so. (sarcasm alert)

reply

he was entertaining

reply

Really? I can't imagine why anyone would say something like that.

reply

watch his Alfred Hitchcock interview or Jerry Lewis. He had a great ability to get people to open up.

reply

He did great ones with Jimi Hendrix and Ingmar Bergman. His interviews were so relaxed.

reply

George Harrison, John Huston.. Robert Mitchum. The guy was great interviewer.

reply

Adolph Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Genghis Khan, ...

reply

they were unavailable.

reply

Cavett is funny, smart, a good writer, and a great interviewer. I don't agree with any of his leftist nonsense, but there are things about people worth looking at other than their politics.

reply

He's a tough one to get. I watch his old show sometimes and I can't tell if he's trying to be Johnny Carson or Walter Cronkite.

reply

Take a number. Look at The View, Chris Cuomo, Don Lemon.....

I have a special place in my heart for Dick Cavett. One thing that Cavett had was a love of Magic. Being a retired performer myself, I appreciated what he did for Magic, but featuring magicians on his show.
And I am especially grateful to Cavett for showcasing the wonderful magic of the late, legendary magician Slydini. Without the shows that Cavett did with Slydini, this wonderful magician's legacy would be forgotten.
He may be a liberal, but I don't care what someone's politics are, if he entertains me. And Dick Cavett always does.

reply

I guess he is.

His book was pretty good.
