Firing Line
What a time to be alive that was, when Buckley would bring ideological opponents on his show and have serious, intellectual discussions.
aka, The Good Old Days

You don't see intellectual conservatives like Buckley anymore. Whether you agreed with him or not, he was always erudite and witty and fun to listen to. These days it's the polar opposite. Perhaps it was Rush Limbaugh who started that trend toward anti-intellectualism in conservative thought. It certainly brought a lot more lower class or lower middle class whites into the fold of the GOP.
shareAnd the left has followed suit, as witnessed by mslsd, pbs, and the idiots supreme on cnn.
share"Left" is what you read in the World Socialist Website (wsws.org), not what you hear or see on MSNBC, CNN, etc. That would be referred to as pseudo-left, its fixation on identity politics of the Democratic Party.
share I liked W.F. Buckley as a TV stylist too. There wasn't really anyone like him. However he was wrong on most things.
A few examples were voting rights, Vietnam, and his advocacy -claimed inocent- for a convicted murderer who he successfully got out of prison. The ex-con soon stabbed a female in the chest.
Agreed. I disagreed with Buckley on almost everything. But I thoroughly enjoyed his arguments in favor of his positions.
