Matt's name isn't in the season credits anywhere. I'd guess this means he'll have a small guest role like he did in S4.

Busy with what? he had no projects in summer but "The last tycoon" but they waited for a while to see if more episodes were going to be filmed and for the moment they are writting the scripts,he has not filmed new episodes since January.
He had not projects this summer,we have heard of, unless he wanted to have more free time for his family ,I dont ser why he would choose a small role,he is very comitted to his job and enjoys it.
I think for whatever the reason is, Ryan doesnt consider him one of his favourite ones, and the good roles are going to others...
Besides,since The normal heart he has only offered him characters who were completely egocentric and jerks like in Glee,The new normal or Hotel
Not to mention Freak show where he played a heartbreaker prostitute..
It is like Ryan only offers him bad roles, while he gives good characters to Bentley, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson...

It seems like Ryan only uses Matt so he can see him naked or in his underwear. When Matt won the GG, there is a picture of Ryan on tiptoe, kissimg Matt's left cheek. Matt is holding himself stiffly, is not leanimg towards him and is not acknowledging him in any way and is looking out at the audience.
Matt appears to be unconditionally in love and true to his spouse.
There is a article about Ryan, his spouse and their 2 young children. It appears since all his gay friends were getting married and starting families, that he needed to do the same thing.
It almost seems like Ryan asked a good friend of 12 yrs to hook up with him and have a family rather than actually be in love with him
and build a life together
I hope I misread that interview but if what I think is true, Ryan has this crush that can only be assuaged by him filming Matt in dishabille.

And Matt is loyal. Ryan was the first to give him a shot and they have done 4 projects together. Having said that, Matt is doing 'Walking Out', 'Anything', 'The Nice Guys', 'The Last Tycoon' 'The Mag 7' and 'Monty', all without Ryan, not to mention perpetually in limbo 'B.O.O. which he did for his young but rapidly aging children.
