The most popular football player in the world?
More than Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi? They are strongest than him as players, and they are popular too,but they are probably less know than Beckham in the USA.

shareInteresting topic...
Cristiano Ronaldo is the most popular, by a wide margin... He's up there with Maradona and Pele in terms of popularity... Even non-sports watcher know them...
Messi comes close, but doesn't have the persona and flare of those three (I can't even remember what his voice sounds like)... Beckham's popularity is waning since he doesn't play anymore and doesn't have the legacy that Maradona and Pele have...
Thats true, but Beckham is still popular thanks to his many commercials, the gossip sites showing always pics of him with his wife Victoria etc. and he also owns a team in the MLS now. Speaking of MLS,i think Ibrahimovic's years at Los Angeles Galaxy made him very famous in the USA too.
sharegood points
most people outside of the US could not name a single MLS team... even the big football (soccer) fans would struggle to name an MLS team other than Galaxy... that's the current situation... but it could change if more players move to MLS as they get older...
Beckham is popular in the US, but outside of the US, he is given far less attention than before... I think if he can get success with his team, it might reverse this trend... imo

^ This is true.
He peaked as a player when he scored a free kick play off winner to get England into a World cup or Euro Championships (I forget). But that was before he even left Man Utd. After that he was as much a liability in the team as later day Wayne Rooney.
Against Greece, England needed a point to qualify, Beckham scored a free kick in the last minute - 20 years ago today. His best England performance!
shareIt's because Beckham mastered Blue Steel.
shareFootball no, Soccer yes.
shareHe is hot
