Been an open secret for quite a while, I already knew he was gay so was surprised to hear he only came out a few days ago.
Apparently it was Ian McKellen who accidently outed him because he mentioned two dwarves from The Hobbit films were gay and people done a process of elimination and figured it out.
Ian McKellen: I would say that has been done in this regard in the last ten years in the industry a lot. Just look only how many openly gay actors in the "Hobbit" with were: two of the dwarves, to Luke Evans, Stephen Fry, Lee.
