Happiest Moments in the Fandom

Listening to some of you reminiscing happily about Guy of Gisborne made me wonder what moments, since I first became interested in RA, have been the most enjoyable for me.

I suppose that, as far as his work is concerned, I was absolutely thrilled when I first heard that he was going to play Thorin in The Hobbit, a book written by my favourite author. Some people groaned that he was being cast as a dwarf, especially when they thought about that childish animated film of the book. But, on one forum, I made guesses about his 'look' which turned out to be pretty accurate, right down to the braids hanging in front of the ears. His beautiful interpretation of Thorin was as good if not better than I hoped it would be.

And his other outstanding role was that of John Proctor in The Crucible - such a magnificent production that I saw twice and which reduced me and my family to tears.

But, I suppose that my happiest moments were the hours that I spent with a number of other fans. I live in a very popular tourist city in the UK and when I saw on some forums that any of RA's fans intended to pass through the city on a visit to England, I often invited them to stay in my home or I had them over for a meal or met up with them and spent some very happy days with them, exploring all the sights. It was then that I realised that being a fan wasn't just to do with the admiration of one particular person but that this was a springboard for bringing people together. Good times!

Why don't you add this topic the new board so when this one shuts down the topic can still be discussed.

It's a good idea, broughps, to finish on some happy thoughts on this board and to start with happy thoughts on a new board when this finally closes down. I think we should focus on all the great things that RA has brought into our lives and none of the unhappy ones, of which, sadly, there are enough to be getting on with. Just forget about those.

I'll be over on the new board soon.

Happiest moment for me was the day after The Crucible press night. We were following the reviews live with a couple of friends in other parts of the world, we were frantically emailing each new reviews and it was a triumph nobody would have dared to hope. I was so happy for Richard and so glad we were seeing his success "live". And when I had the chance and privilege to see the play twice, I understand those 5 stars reviews were all legitimate and very true.
I can't wait to find out if RA will be in Oedipus to Antigone by Farber...

So was I because I absolutely loved TLoTR films. It was then I actually entered into the RA fandom completely. Before that my interest was more because of North and South. I remember the first press conference when the cast was announced and they came in and sat at that long table. I recall that as Richard sat down he checked his name plate to make sure he was sat in the right place. I don’t know why but I found that so endearing. My interest in him was really piqued at this press conference and I started watching interviews and catching up with his other work as well.

For me I'd have to say when Robin Hood was on. Lots of discussions and lots of good fanfic.

I get the feeling that it was Robin Hood and GoG that first drew the attention of American fans. Once they got into Guy, they then discovered N&S. Yes, Guy was such a fun character to talk about. RA handled the part so well and gave the character a lot of depth. I wasn't so sure about the series itself but the creatives got together and produced some very entertaining/funny vids - better than the show, LOL!

I saw N&S first on the recommendation of one of our librarians. I was looking for Matthew Macfadyen and she said "have you checked out Richard Armitage?" The rest is history.

It had us laughing so hard all day long. It was wonderful. We had only just seen a still or two of the new frizzy look in RH.
