with her newest movie arrival, she's carrying it. which is amazing considering how until like american hustle she was always a bit actor playing in either small indie movies like doubt or playing smaller supporting roles in big Hollywood movies. now, for the first time in her career she is carrying a movie, the movie arrival.
shareImo the first film Amy Adams made a huge impression in was as the girlfriend in The Fighter. Obviously that was a supporting role, but it made me first think she could carry a film.
In American Hustle the casting and script called for more an ensemble approach than typical lead and supporting roles. But Ms. Adams certainly held her own in that mix and imo was the best in the film. In short see is making the most of what roles she plays, and I am looking forward to seeing her in Arrival.

Then Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Meg Ryan, Julia Roberts were supporting always because they never made Franchise Movies. First learn to respect Classic style Hollywood movies then post.
And when she played smaller supporting roles? In which movie? She was always top billed actor in those movies. smaller means 4th-5th billed. Amy always got top 2 billing. She never did supporting in "Big" hollywood movies. Starring opposite Male actors is not called smaller supporting. She has 20 movies as lead in her name.

Though on a tangent, I remember Amy Adams from "Smallville", the seventh episode of the series I believe [i.e., the one where the central "villain of the week" character that is "overweight", bullied(?), but kryptonite makes her go on a rampage attacking her bullies (by either seduction or other means)].
WB network kept repeating this episode A LOT lol.
She was in Charmed and Buffy before that as well. I don’t think I’ve seen her Charmed ep but I have seen her Buffy ep a few times. It’s a small role but her screen presence is stronger than that of the main cast.
