Seems like a hack as a director
I doubt she knows a dam thing about the technical side of filmmaking.
shareI doubt she knows a dam thing about the technical side of filmmaking.
shareActor-turned-directors rarely do. They never had to learn the technical nitty gritty for themselves, as they have all the experts in the world guiding them through and telling them what to do. They also have little-to-no concept of film theory, as most of them only know what they know through osmosis from hanging around movie sets all day without having studied classic cinema for themselves. In turn, making them competent but totally unremarkable at their job. Elizabeth Banks' direction seems to perfectly embody this.
shareI would bet money that her theory was something like this,
I'm a woman, making a film about girl power, I can't lose! And if no one likes my film I just call everyone sexist.
