I know what you mean about her voice being deeper. I think this has happened to a lot of female performers over the years. I read somewhere that it has something to do with the vocal cords relaxing with age, which makes a female voice sound lower or deeper. Remember Lucille Ball how her voice changed? LOL of course she was a heavy smoker and I don't think Lily is. But I've noticed it too with Lily. I chalk it up to aging gracefully.

She got an Oscar nomination for Nashville and boy did she deserve it. She was brilliant in that movie. I think she deserved the Oscar but that year, 1975, it went to that pesky Lee Grant. Nashville is not one of my favorite movies ( Lily-wise or movies in general) but like you said her performance in the film is reason enough to watch it. I liked Robert Altman's Short Cuts better. That was a film about L.A. and mixed stories interweaved, like Nashville. Maybe I have an aversion to southern culture but I liked it much much better. If you haven't seen it I won't spoil it for you but Lily's character in Short Cuts plays a crucial part in the whole movie. I really should get the movie on dvd. I'm stall hanging onto my old double tape vhs version, lol
