shareI think yes and no. In the 1970's some people would say that Lily wasn't "out" at all and that she didn't officially come out until 2000 when she was open in a couple interviews. However, Lily herself has said that she was always open and honest about her relationship with Jane Wagner and talked about her but that the press/media just chose to not write about it. They always called Jane her friend or collaborator instead of her partner, lover or girlfriend. When one thinks about it though, everybody was correct and open because Jane Wagner is Lily's significant other AND professional collaborator BOTH. So, I suppose the answer to your question depends upon one's own interpretation of "open" or "out".
shareIn addtion to the reply I just posted here is a quote from Lily about what I was trying to say:
"I've been around a long time, and I interviewed with a lot of the same people over and over. I was always direct and open about my life. I would always reference Jane [Wagner] and everything, but they never choose to write about it that way -- just like they never wrote about Jack Kennedy and the women in the swimming pool. It was the times, but the media culture has changed."
Thanks, jimmmylee.
shareYou're welcome.
shareI got the impression that Lily Tomlin was bisexual and most people in the entertainment business knew about it. I also heard that Lily and John Travolta had a relationship during and after filming "Moment By Moment".
shareWell, jeffgg, that might have been challenging with her lover/partner directing the picture.
If it is not in the frame, it does not exist!
