Yes, well, quite probably, he is a genius, and very good observator, and also as story teller. Unfortunately, he is also a little bit, ... lazy, ... and probably more than just a little (not at work, but at getting work, precision was required, because when he involves himself, he is really involved). In fact, he seems to perform better when under a high level of stress.
Dude Where is my car? is a good example of what he was doing, early... at least, that surprised me (when I saw it, five to six years after its initial release, me too, surprised by what that guy was able to do).
He is one of the few comic where you cannot really say that he has a style like you can say "this is Adam Sandler style", or this is "Eddie Murphy style", since he was able to renew his play for different characters, things that Sandler had problem in renewing his own style, for new characters. But even a genius will end by repeating himself, and because there is room in being recognized for "serious" roles, I hope that he will move away from comic comedies. But sure, that choice is maybe not only his own ... And if only he could put the same energy in that goal than he did, in the first place, to get a part of the action in American Pie, his first (real) movie... from here, it is far, but it seems he can make it, and make it spectacular.
He is also a great human being, helping others a lot, more than otherwise, without making his acts publicly known.
