Cop Out

Seann was the ONLY reason to see that movie. Every single scene without him was torturous.

Same here! he was the best, that movie would not have been the same without him in it.

the only thing that made it even close to watchable. the last scene in the morgue was great.

Are you all serious? I thought he was the worst part of this movie.

You saw the movie? or, more probable, you simply thought that, without seeing the movie?

He had not much 'great line' all by themselves, but he adds to the script to make them memorable (from various comments, there was room for improvisation, and Seann used the opportunity). A very hard scene, the one where he is in prison, is one of these scenes that should be added to school books. And the scene where Bruce has problem to keep his serious is also a good indication of the kind of team spirit quality when Seann is there.

So, yes, he is a great part of the movie, and I am sorry if that bothers you, but it is a well spread concensus.

the "knock-knock" scene in the car is clinching evidence that SWS is just one of the best actors currently working in Hollywood. I would love it if he collaborated with a Paul Thomas Anderson or a Whit Stillman, who could really push him to show what he is capable of.

It is observable that someone with a great natural talent is likely to get some great success at some point, after having got some deception or indifference, but then, that someone will *stick* to the recipe where the success has consecrated him. Seann has a great natural talent and it seems he can do much more than what he has already done, but as any natural, success comes without him really knowing why it comes, and, unfortunately, success also leaves. Sure, that occurs also, sometimes, randomly, for untalented people too, but Seann's talent is observable in many places, under many circumstances. He is also very chameleon like, fitting with the other actors he plays with: with Kutcher, he refused to jump down 3 feet from a tree (ref: DVD comment track), but in The Rundown, with The Rock, he did much more perilous stuff. That kind of talented actor, ready to *fit in*, is definitively a gem. And being too talented, when things easily come to you, there is a potential problem of some 'laziness' kicking in, so 'some' guidance are probably welcome. In American Wedding, Seann was not wanting to do the dog-chocolate scene, but being 'forced' to do it, to me, that is one among his greatest ones, where he renders two opposite emotions (to like the 'chocolate' in front of the mother's bride, and to not like it in front of us) at the same time! So, definitively, Seann, alone, is maybe not as great as while in a team, simply because he does not try as hard when he is (left) alone, and some great director could definitively push him toward what Seann would have never thought, otherwise, if left alone, unchalenged.

Definitely. To me he is one of the funniest actor out there right now.
