He did a phenomenal job of portraying the "Joker". Am I right?

Yeah, I'd find it hard to see someone else do a better job! But we've certainly got a lot of time ahead of us, so we'll see. I certainly wish I could've seen more of what he could've done in the future, but we'll never know what great things he could've accomplished. Definitely great potential, he's the definitive Joker at this point, in my opinion!

Yeah, I saw Batman from 1989 and I thought Jack Nicholson's portrayal was too "cartoonish".

Agreed, but that was Tim Burton's portrayal of the Joker. I thought Jack Nicholson did a great job for the comic book style that he had to work with in that movie. While Jack Nicholson's Joker wasn't anywhere near the same caliber of Heath Ledger's, I thought he was great for what was asked of him.

I think, probably, no one in that cast thought they could ever been nominated for an award. They were probably doing the best they thought they could for Tim Burton and (hopefully) having a fun time while they were doing it. Not that it wasn't a possibility they could get recognized, but when you're in a movie like that, it probably isn't expected at all.

When you're in a dark noir film of Christopher Nolan's, I can see that maybe, even though it's a super hero film, that you may get some recognition.

Would Heath Ledger have gotten recognition if he hadn't died? I think so! It was an incredible performance!! Honestly, I don't remember what he was up against that year, but what I do remember is how insanely great he was in that role.... dead or not!
