Lucius Malfoy

Honestly Lucius Malfoy is one of my absolute favorite Harry Potter characters in the series, mostly because I love Jason Isaacs' performance. He just plays him so well, I enjoy how sophisticated he is as Lucius and how deadly he becomes at the end of Chamber of Secrets. They picked the perfect actor for the role.

I know! When I heard that he had auditioned for Gilderoy Lockhart I practically screamed. Having someone OTHER THAN Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy is like eating plastic- YOU JUST CAN'T DO IT. I can't even imagine anyone else. Or looking any other way, and again, we can thank Jason Isaacs. Lucius is my favorite because not only is Jason Isaacs amazing, but Lucius Malfoy is the most dynamic character in the series. He is the only one that REALLY changes what he wants. He goes from wanting power and the Dark Lord's return, to only wanting his family to be safe. And Jason Isaacs is gorgeous and amazing. I LOVE the snobbish, evil, conniving, Lucius Malfoy, but I'm so afraid to see the scared-out-of-his-mind, wuss-ified version of him, and excited at the same time. Seeing him change, and how Jason portrays him in that light, is going to be EPIC, and I know he'll be terrific.

What bothers me is that I'm convinceed they'll mess that part up, like they have with so many other bits of the books. Nothing on Jason, he's amazing, but the writer and director usually eff things up as far as I'm concerned and I don't think the last two movies will be any different.

Now I'm REALLY scared. Jason isaacs and David Yates came up with another way to end Lucius' story so tha it's an 'OH MY GOD' kinda thing. Immediate speculation is that they are killing him off. He finished filming when he was still scheduled for THREE MORE MONTHS and left him out of "That scene, and that one, and that one". So it sounds like there is going to be a lot less Lucius. Here's a link to the article/audio clip: http://www.snitchseeker.com/harry-potter-news/jason-isaacs-talks-end-lucius-malfoys-story-deathly-hallows-71577/

Yeah, I read that and it pisses me off. Why drastically change something that was so perfect in the book? It bothers me that Jason was behind it as well...

My bet is they'll give him Narcissa's part in downfall, like Voldie will send Lucius to check on Harry and he'll ask Harry if Draco's alive and still in the castle, then tell Voldie that Harry's dead.

I hate the way they've ruined these books, but Issacs is the only adult character that not only lived up to but exceeded his part. I even read that they had to tell him to tone down his evilness in COS because he was so scary and I really do wish they did some outtakes of that!

Bellatrix was too crappy. Usually a great actress, HBC seemed to be overacting and loud (my complaint for most of the adults) her laugh sounded like it belonged on a cheap dollarstore halloween sound effects CD. And why did they slut her up so much and make her flirt with everyone? She's only for Voldemort. Lucius and Snape both disgusted her. A good casting for Bella would have been Carla from Coronation Street.

Narcissa: She's supposed to be the youngest of the Black sisters. Why did they cast someone who looks old enough to be Isaacs grandmother? Jadis from the Chronicles of Narnia would have been so much better.

Lupin: First of all, he was supposed to look like he was starving. Thewelis has never missed a meal or seconds, even. Lupin was also supposed to be very reserved and almost timid about closeness with the students, this guy almost seemed to be a pervert. Not to mention the fabricated backstory with Lily making her a complete Mary Sue - rather than sticking to canon and having him say he was James Potter's friend. (I know, not the actors fault there but I'm on a rant now)

Sirius: Overacted, plain and simple. Sometimes I thought he was going to break out into song. He improved in the fifth movie, but POA (the worst movie of them all I might add) he seemed like he was on a stage in a High School play. And wasn't he supposed to look like he had once been handsome?

Snape: I think he would have been much more suited to the part 20 years ago when he was the right age to play Severus. Snape for the first movie should have been roughly 36. Rickman was at the time... well over 50. Not to be agist, but because of this - ALL of the adults were aged except Lucius, ironically - Isaacs was exactly the right age for the part of Lucius (did the math a while ago). So how he would have been a Prefect when Snape was a first year ... well I'm sure they'll skip that bit in the movie. Anyways, Rickman usually an amazing actor, I blame scripting. He's too obviously sympathetic to Harry and too "on performance", or dramatic. Overdone.

James and Lily: well - they look older than they were supposed to have been when they died (21) but of course, this was all to balance out with the casting of Rickman.

NarcisaM... Sorry but Helena Bonham-Carter was a great Bellatrix, Rickman was a great Snape, and even JK Rowling says so. Lupin looks dead half the time... how does he not look like he's starving... Maybe you need glasses.

Helena screams too much, and Bellatrix was devoted to Voldemort. She wasn't a tart that hit on her own nephew.

And yes, Rickman was a great Snape, but he was 20 years too old for the character. Doing some math, the Potters were 21 when they died, canon. Harry was one. So ten years later they would have been... roughly 30-32, depending on birthdays. Snape would have been that age when Harry first started Hogwarts. 30... to 32. It sort of set the age for the entire cast of his classmates. That's my only problem with Rickman there. Because they cast him, they couldn't cast the younger actors they originally wanted (did you know Christian Bale was originally pegged for either Lupin or Sirius?).

And as for Lupin. He's a meatball, he hasn't missed a meal, he hasn't missed a snack. Lupin was supposed to be skinny and starving-looking.
