*Why* do people think this is nepotism?

He's only ever been a recurring guest star on a few TV shows, he had a short lived crimes series, and yeah, sure, he does a lot of movies, but they're mostly all relatively unknown indie flicks. A good portion of the time, he plays someone creepy, strange, or odd. He's not exactly well-known. Yeah, is it easier for him make connections because he's met a lot of people in the industry? Sure. But his career, though interesting and prolific, is not exactly on par with say, Kate Hudson, who is the daughter of some very well-known actors, and not nearly as charming as her mother.

It's considered nepotism because even getting a foot in the door, getting an agent, getting "in the room", is actually the hardest part of getting a career in acting. Those are all the doors that get opened with a famous last name.

And I see nothing wrong with that.
We'd all do it.
No different than a kid inheriting a business...

Why do people *not* think it is nepotism

Nepotism: Patronage bestowed or favoritism shown on the basis of family relationship, as in business and politics

Less than 1% of actors get significant TV and movie roles. Do the math. If he wasn't Tom Hank's son he'd be waiting tables right now.

I'm not saying anything's wrong with this, but it definitely IS nepotism.

Of course nepotism gets your foot in the door, but to say he's still getting parts only because of his dad's name after nearly two decades in the biz in kinda stretching it. Particularly since he's not even a big name on his own. Sooner or later, no matter how famous your parents or one of you parents is, you're going to have prove whether you actually have some acting talent or not, and stand or fall on your own merits. I've only seen him in one film in which he wasn't half bad (Alone With Her) so I can't say whether he's good or bad or whatever. I am kids of looking forward to the new TV show he's in,called Life In Places mainly because it looked it's going to actually be funny from the advertising I saw from

Nepotism is a huge issue in Hollywood. Its a scandal that should be protested, just like African Americans protested the lack of Black actors or films at the Oscars.

It ALL part of the 'good ole' boy' network.

Also, the lack of roles for Asian Americans, and Native Americans is an outrage.

The Hollywood "liberals" are always looking out for their own.
