John Coffey

You know, if he had not done anything but played John Coffey in The Green Mile, I'll bet that most everyone here would still be feeling the same sadness at his untimely passing. That alone makes his work (and memory) amazing, and should make his family proud.

Agree?

I'm tearing up right now.

I notice that he was in A LOT of movies and TV shows, but I really don't remember him in much other than The Green Mile. I don't know if it shows disrespect for him, but FOR ME, that one role added up to more than everything else he did in his career.

Well said.

His legacy is ensured in Hollywood's archives. People 50 years from now are going to look at that film and still be moved.

I know he was just acting but he convinced me he's a good person in real life.
Rest in peace, my good man:(

I hope that wherever he is, they're playing this for him.

I too don't remember him for anything else except for The Green Mile (and Armegeddon), but John Coffey will be one of those roles for the ages, that nobody will ever forget. There is no one, absolutely no one else, that I could think of or possibly imagine who could have played that role. He was born to play it. That's what he was meant to leave as his gift. And because of it, he will never be forgotten. I truly mourn this man that I have never met. People say "how could you care about someone you never met? An actor who meant nothing to you, who you never knew"? Well this is how. Because they make an impact in your life. That's what art and film and music and musicians do for us. They make our world a little better and brighter while we are here.

Remember us, for we too have lived, loved and laughed

Very well said Bridget. You're right, he will never be forgotten. Especially becuz of his amazing performance in the "Green Mile". I noticed since his death was reported that some ppl here & elsewhere, on the net, are ripping on him (classy ppl btw) cuz they think he only had one memorable film role. But that is totally undeserved. Just like other large ppl, Hollywood has never been very friendly or generous in handing out major roles (let alone small ones) to ppl that don't look like they could be on the cover of a fashion magazine. So if most of us remember him only for his role in "Green Mile" or "Armageddon", it isn't becuz he didn't have enuff talent. It was just becuz there aren't that many big roles for people of MCD's size & Hollywood's overall lack of imagination & prejudice against ppl who don't fit within a certain mold. But MCD proved that he could act with the best of them & then some. May he R.I.P.

He had the coolest smile, when he smiled, you smiled. He seemed like the nicest possible person, always saw him on TMZ always making jokes with the cameramen and everyone. For me, I will remember him in Sin City, The Scorpion King, Armageddon & Daredevil and he was AMAZING in The Green Mile. What a shame. It's crazy, it's still not sinking in for me, but he will always be John Coffey to me.

R.I.P. Michael Clarke Duncan, you will be missed.
