I definitely agree that the show in general, and Emmy in particular is in critical need of some awards recognition. Her performance is just so consistently great on the show that it's incredible she hasn't been at least nominated for an award yet.
One of the problems the show has, is that it's difficult to categorize. It's a drama/comedy, so should it contend as a comedy or a drama? Personally I think it should go in the drama category, but apparently they haven't quite figured out what to do yet. It's kind of in a no-man's-land at the moment.
Interview with Emmy from The Wall Street Journal:
Is it hard to watch another Showtime series, Homeland
Win every award under the sun? I guess. At the same time, its a great show. And their category is much clearer than ours. They are a strong drama. We were entered [in the Emmys] as a drama, because were an hour long. But were not obviously hysterical enough to be a comedy. Obviously I have no say in this, but its been discussed that were in a no-mans land. But I dont think we have that envy, because we feel blessed to be making a show that people enjoy. Recognition is always nice, but you cant play the game for that reason. Youll always be underwhelmed.http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2013/01/20/have-you-no-shame-emmy-rossu m/
I really hope she/the show gets some recognition in the next awards season.
