Still touring
But sits a lot throughout the performance. He must need money otherwise why let the fans see you that way? Sad way to go out.

shareI thought he'd said he'd retired because arthritis in his hands made it impossible to hold the drumsticks.
shareI think he just sings now. His drumming career I believe is over. There are some YouTube videos of his latest tour dates. He sits a lot of the time and uses a cane.
shareI spend my time with walkers, canes, and scooters, so my heart goes out to him. But I noticed that Billy Joel isn't as agile as he used to be, and he makes up for it by having younger people sometimes quite literally running around the stage while Joel sits there serenely, playing the piano and singing better than ever. The show can be just as good, if "show" is what they've come for. But my guess is that it's the songs and his vocals that they're really coming for.
shareHe has a back injury that makes sitting at the drum kit a little difficult. Same thing with Neil Peart of Rush. Neil has retired from both music and drumming. Phil's son Nicholas now plays the drums. Phil says he doesn't pay him well but.......
sharePhil Collins fell and injured his foot so severely he needs now to walk with a cane. During his performances he needs to sit because standing is painful for him. He's never sounded better and quite frankly, his true fans don't give a fruck. I know I don't. I'm very proud of him for daring to go out. Judging by the applause he receives I don't think those attending those concerts give a crap.
shareIf he's never sounded better, that's the real point. Collins came along when the music, not the spectacle, was king. It's the music they're coming for!
shareWell that's not entirely true about the "spectacle". Peter Gabriel was pretty well known for his antics during his time with Genesis. That is the reason they wrote the song "Skwonk". It was dedicated to Gabriel's isms. I would love to go and see him but his ticket price is just too steep. I did go and see Simple Minds last September when they were touring in Canada. One of the most amazing nights of my life.
shareI saw videos of this tour on YouTube. He sounds OK but he was sitting for the whole show and no more drums. If he needs the money then I will not say he should retire but I personally wouldn't see a show like that. Artists should go out on top not hang on for dear life but again, if he is in need of money, he should make it any way he can.
shareWhen you name your tour STILL NOT DEAD, it's time to hang it up.
shareAs long as he has his voice, let him sing.
shareGood on him.
