Rip Torn vs Norman Mailer

Searching around I came across this...

Rip Torn vs Norman Mailer

Here is the informous act caught 'On Camera' from the filming of Mailer's; Maidstone (1970)

It's a intense couple of minutes! While you watching, envision this happening today between director Spielberg snarling to have a nibble at actor Tom Hank's ears? Never gonna happen is it!?!? Might put BALLS back into Hollywood!

Who is Norman Mailer? That young guy couln't possibly be him (I'm guessing the guy without the shirt is Rip), as Norman was born in 1923.

This video is part of the movie Maidstone, which was filmed in 1970. At that time, Mailer (without shirt) was 47 and Torn (green shirt) was 39. You can definitely identify both of them in closeups.

Funny that the cameraman filmed it instead of breaking the fight up. Maybe he thought Mailer would put it in the film.

Haven't seen the movie (yet). But I think the fight itself may have been planned, only Rip Torn went absolutely insane for a few minutes there and took it too far, attempting to murder Mailer. I'm guessing he wasn't a big fan of The Executioner's Song.

There is really something special about movies made between 1969-1980 that movies lack now.... I think I'd like to see more animalistic violence between director's and their actors.
